The institute was founded in 1958 as the Brevard Engineering College and did not receive its current name until 1966. The Florida Institute of Technology, usually known as FIT or Florida Tech, is a privately owned, non-profit university located in Melbourne. In 1958, the university was founded as Brevard Engineering College to provide extra support to NASA's operation. Florida Institute of Technology now offers 200 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programmes, as well as a number of associate and certificate programmes.
