Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) began with the founding of the Glasgow School of Cookery in 1875 and the West End School of Cookery in 1878. The two institutions united in 1908 to form the Glasgow and West of Scotland College of Domestic Science (GWSCDS). Glasgow Caledonian University now provides a diverse range of academic programmes, including undergraduate, postgraduate teaching, and research programmes. The programmes are divided into three categories: Inclusive Societies, Healthy Lives, and Sustainable Environments.
