The Illinois Institute of Technology's history may be traced back to 1890, when higher education was reserved for the affluent. In 1940, Lewis Institute and Armour Institute merged to form the Illinois Institute of Technology. Engineering, science, business architecture, design, law, applied technology, and human sciences are all available as bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees at the institute of technology.
