Niagara College was established in 1967 in Welland to equip students with more career-oriented courses. This was Canada's first college to teach brewing and winemaking. As tourism increased in Canada, the institution established the Tourism Industry Development Center (TIDC) to teach students in the hotel and tourism industries. Academic, Liberal and Access Studies, Allied Health, Community Services, English Language Studies, Justice and Fitness, Media, Nursing and Personal Support Worker, Part-Time Studies, Technology and Trades are now housed on the Welland campus.

Campus

There are three active campuses for the college: the Welland Campus, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, and the Taif Campus. The Welland campus is located at 100 Niagara College Boulevard. There is an activity centre, a campus store, a sports centre, open computer laboratories, a cafeteria, and a library on this campus. It provides programmes in television and cinema acting, early childhood education, policing and community safety studies, and broadcasting. It is home to the Niagara Children's Safety Village as well as the new Welland YMCA. 135 Taylor Road is the address of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus. It first opened in 1998. The Niagara Waters Spa, dining room, Winery teaching portion, and Niagara Culinary Institute are all located on one property. It also contains living labs, a field nursery, and greenhouse equipment on-site.

Niagara University is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).

Niagara's 'Community Employment Services' helps students and graduates find jobs. Students can also register for career guidance through Niagara College's employment site, 'MyCareer.' Students can use this portal to obtain career assistance for up to two years. Graduates from Niagara are renowned to get job within the first six months of completing their education with an average yearly pay of 30.86 lakhs in Canada, with a graduate employment rate of roughly 88.8 percent.
