North Tec
NorthTec Institute, formerly known as Northland Community College, was founded in 1978 as an open tertiary education provider. In 2006, it was renamed to its current name. By 1981, the institute was offering over 50 courses, and in 1983, it launched the nurse training programme. In 1989, the institute awarded its first bachelor's degree. In 1988, it was designated as a polytechnic institution. The institute is known to have contributed to different research programmes and focuses primarily on technical studies. Additionally, the institute provides undergraduate programmes, postgraduate programmes, diploma level programmes, short-term courses, and certificate courses.

Cost of attendance

The average tuition fee for a first-year graduate is Rs.9,07,000.


The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 has been signed by NorthTec. In accordance with the Code, all of our kids shall be effectively supported, informed, and cared for. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority is in charge of enforcing the Code of Practice (NZQA). They are delighted to assist you in selecting suitable housing, which includes flats, board, homestay, and rentals. For four weeks, the average cost of accommodation is $1120 (Homestay fee).

Acceptance rate

The institute now has 7,835 students, 1051 of whom are overseas students. Admission to the University of North Texas is competitive, with an acceptance rate of 84%.


The institute's main campus includes a health centre, a cafeteria, a café, a salon, an art gallery, and a library with hundreds of journals, books, novels, and magazines. The library's online resources are also available to students. The campus has all of the amenities that students require. The students enjoy a peaceful learning atmosphere. All of the institute's competitions, festivals, events, debates, and seminars take place on campus. Furthermore, the institute maintains a number of learning centres. Dargaville's centre houses the departments of Forestry, Horticulture, Agriculture, and Hospitality. Another centre is located in Kaitaia and houses two big workshops, an administration building, and the business and horticultural departments. The third learning centre is located in Kaikohe and houses the faculties of automotive engineering, social services, agriculture, commerce, forestry, and construction.


NorthTec is honoured to be accredited by CA ANZ (Whangarei campus) and CPA Australia (Whangarei) to deliver academic programmes leading to professional designations.

Jobs and Placement

NorthTec collaborates closely with industry and enterprises to address the Northland community's requirements. Through work placements, internships, industrial projects, and on-site training, they collaborate with local firms to provide students with industry-relevant experience. NorthTec collaborates with local stakeholders through Local Advisor Committees and Sector Training Organizations to ensure that their curriculum matches the demands of the industry.
