Pace University began in 1906 as a one-room accounting school in the New York Tribune Building, founded by brothers Charles Ashford Pace and Homer St. Clair Pace. The Pace brothers taught the first 13 students at the institution. Pace Institute quickly followed, and it began offering courses in business law and accounting all around the country. Pace University now has 135 undergraduate majors and 89 graduate programmes. The university's Law School has been named first in the United States for Environmental Law.
