Bishop Walter W. Curtis established Sacred Heart University in 1963. The primary goal of this university at the time was to educate society regardless of creed, ethnicity, gender, or religion. It currently provides a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting, communications, nursing, and engineering. Sacred Heart University's main campus, which spans 100 acres, is located in the Fairfield, Connecticut suburbs. The University has satellite campuses in Stamford, where the Physician Assistant Program is taught, and Griswold, where graduate education programmes are taught. Over 100 social, intellectual, leadership, media, multicultural, and performing arts clubs and organisations are available to SHU students. There is also a Greek Life programme at the university, with fifteen sororities and fraternities and approximately 1,800 active participants. The Sacred Heart University Pioneers compete in 32 NCAA Division I athletic teams in over 30 intercollegiate sports teams.
