Sonoma State College was established in 1960 as part of the California State University System. Its initial cohort of 250 students enrolled in 1961. In 1978, it was designated as a university. It launched its initial four-year curriculum in 1962. The board of trustees decided to add 48 acres of land in Copeland Creek in 2001. International students can now apply for programmes at the university. Degrees are available in 46 majors and 49 minors at the bachelor's level, and 15 at the master's level, through the university's 36 academic departments.

Beaujolais Village consists of four bedroom apartments with separate bedrooms, access to a full kitchen, and a furnished living room for four people. All units at Sauvignon Village have four bedrooms. Six students will have access to 1,500 square feet of living space on two storeys in Tuscany, with each bedroom having its own bathroom. In 2020, the average student paid $7,424 for housing and $5,598 for eating. Off-campus accommodation costs roughly 1000 to 1500 USD per month on average.

Acceptance rate

The university has a total of 9481 students enrolled. SSU has roughly 50 international students and about 60 in the Language Institute. Admission to Sonoma State University is less selective, with an acceptance rate of 89 percent.

Campus

Six schools on the university campus provide studies in 65 departments. The university's campus recreation activities provide a wide range of programmes and services, such as inMotion group exercise classes, a variety of intramurals, climbing the Rock wall, and so on. Every year, 120+ clubs and organisations participate in hundreds of campus activities. There is a small community where students' interests are developed and excelled, and related students give programmes and services to improve students' lives. The university's fraternity and sorority organisations are quite active, and they house about 10% of the student population. Baseball, cheerleading, dance, equestrian, rowing, water polo, and other gender-specific sports clubs are all active.

Accredition

Sonoma State University was first accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) in 1969 and its accreditation was most recently reaffirmed in February 2018.

Jobs and Placement

The university makes every effort to provide as much assistance as possible in obtaining a job immediately following the completion of the degree. A student will obtain insight into numerous paths through making connections/networking. The Vancouver Clinic, Kaiser Permanente, The Walt Disney Company, Nanosyn, and Plaisware are among the popular enterprises that hire university graduates.
