Southern Institute of Technology is a public institute and one of New Zealand's largest technical institutes. SIT was founded in 1971 and became well-known for its Zero Fees Scheme. Campus

The main campus is located in Invercargill, with five smaller campuses located in Gore, Queenstown, Christchurch, Telford, and Auckland. The Southern Institute of Technology took over the Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand, or MAINZ, in 2018, and had previously been based in Auckland. For the year 2020, the institute is also planning another campus at St. Johns Church. The institute has invested more than $5.5 million in campus improvements and continues to do so. The Southern Institute of Technology has nine schools or divisions through which its courses and degrees are provided.
