The University of Charleston was founded in 1888 as the Barboursville Seminary and received its current name in 1978. It is a private university in Charleston, West Virginia, on the banks of the Kanawha River. There is also a campus in Beckley, West Virginia. The Innovation Centre, Sports Arena, Welch Athletic Complex, School of Pharmacy building, classrooms, residence halls, riverbank lawn, and landmark Clay Tower building are all part of the campus. The University also has a branch in Beckley, West Virginia, about 58 miles south of Charleston. Weddings and other events can be held at the Erma Byrd Gallery, Riggleman Rotunda, U.C Riverbank, The Ballroom, Geary Auditorium, The Frankenberger Art Gallery, and Appalachian Art Room at the University of Charleston.
