The University of Huddersfield is a public university that provides a variety of educational programmes. Its history stretches back to 1841, when it was founded as the Young Men's Mental Improvement Society. It later became a technical college in 1896 after undergoing various renovations. The college was then united with the Oastler College of Education in 1970 to form Huddersfield Polytechnic. Finally, in 1992, the polytechnic obtained university status and became the University of Huddersfield. The University of Huddersfield now provides over 200 undergraduate, postgraduate taught, and postgraduate research courses.
