The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) was founded in 1990 and is a member of Universities Canada, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, U Sports, the International Association of Universities, and the University of the Arctic. The Northern Medical Program was established as a result of the university's collaboration with the University of British Columbia.
