Western Washington University (WWU) is a respected Washington state-funded university. WWU was founded in 1893 as a female-only institution. It has been known as New Whatcom Normal School since 1977 and Western Washington College of Education before that. Since 1947, WWU has conferred graduate degrees. Western Washington University has an electronic music studio, an air pollution lab, a motor vehicle research lab, a marine research lab, a wind tunnel, an electronic microscope, and a neutron generating lab on its campus. Western Washington University also maintains an off-campus location in Anacortes, Washington, at Shannon Point Marine Center. It is a 15-acre student university campus near Lake Whatcom. Furthermore, students can participate in 250+ student clubs and organisations available on-campus.
