Columbia University (Fu Foundation) was founded in 1754 as a private Ivy League research university. Through its 20 schools, the university provides a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees. Some of its world-renowned schools include the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Columbia College, and the School of General Studies, as well as graduate schools such as Columbia Law School, Columbia Journalism School, Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Columbia Business School.

Cost of attendance

The annual tuition fees for Columbia University courses is around 58.2 Lakhs INR. The financial aid, offered in form of need-based assistance is what makes the university affordable for international students. Half of the Columbia students receive financial assistance, with the average aid amount being 52,000 USD (~40 lakhs).


Living on campus is a possibility, however there are a limited amount of dorm rooms available, and it is rather pricey. The average annual cost is around 7.11 lakhs. The majority of Columbia's dormitories are in the Morningside Heights and Manhattan Valley areas. The institution also offers residential halls in Riverdale, which is about 20 minutes away from campus. At Columbia, 92 percent of students reside in college-owned, operated, or linked housing, while just 8% live off-campus.

The total number of students at the university is 31455. Columbia was home to approximately 11,269 international students. It has an acceptance rate of 5.8%, which makes it the third most selective college in the country and the second most selective college in the Ivy League.


Columbia University's Morningside Heights campus is located in Manhattan at Broadway and 116th Street. Several structures on campus are designated as National Historic Landmarks, including Philosophy Hall, which is known as "the place of the creation of the FM radio." The Morningside Heights campus, which encompasses more than six city blocks, is stretched across 32 acres and is surrounded by numerous academic hubs. In addition, the institution provides instruction through its associated medical schools. Manhattanville, which has been added to the university campuses since 2008, encircles around 17 acres of the city.
