Middle Tennessee State University, abbreviated MTSU or MT, is a public university located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. After beginning as a normal school in 1911, Middle Tennessee State Teachers College became a four-year teachers' college in 1925. After the institute was granted university status in 1965, Middle Tennessee State University was formed. The university previously served on the Tennessee Board of Regents. Governance was entrusted to an institutional board of trustees the following year.
