Midwestern State University, founded in 1922, is a public liberal arts college that is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, the Association of American Colleges and Universities, and the Federation of North Texas Area Universities. Wichita Falls Junior College was renamed Hardin Junior College in 1937 before being renamed Midwestern University in 1950.
