Northwood Institution (NU) is a private university in Midland, Michigan that was founded in 1959. It was previously located in Alma, Michigan. Arthur E. Turner and R. Gary Stauffer were the first to open it. This university began with only a hundred students. This university also launched new projects, such as aftermarket studies, entertainment and sports management, and fashion merchandising. It also established a campus collaboration in Montreux, Switzerland. The athletic teams at Northwood University's Michigan campus are known as the Timberwolves. The campus competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division II level (NCAA). Northwood competes in 16 varsity sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track & field, and volleyball for men, and basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball for women. Men's ice hockey is a club sport. Northwood announced on April 29, 2021, that it will leave the GLIAC to join the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) in July 2022.

It is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, an accreditation agency that has been recognised by the U.S. Department of Education.
