In 1969, the University of Alabama at Birmingham was founded. The highly regarded public university is one of Alabama's three major research institutions. The university began as an academic extension facility in 1936 and became an independent institution in 1969. With 116 students, the institute began operations in an ancient mansion in central Birmingham. UAB Graduate School now offers over 85 programmes that assist students develop the skills they need to build a rewarding career. In addition, UAB provides over 50 bachelor's degrees and 90 graduate degree programmes in liberal arts, business, engineering, education, social and behavioural sciences, dentistry, medicine, nursing, optometry, and public health.

Accommodation

Students are housed on campus by the university. On campus, there are six residence halls: Blazer Hall, Camp Hall, Blount Hall, Rast Hall, Denman Hall, and New Freshmen Residence Hall. Each of these residences offers students on-campus housing. Blazer Express is a free shuttle service provided by UAB that allows students and workers to commute to, from, and around the campus. In 2020, the average student's on-campus housing cost $5,900, and a typical eating package cost $3,936. Off-campus accommodation costs roughly 1000 to 1500 USD per month on average.

Acceptance rate

The institution has around 21,923 students, including 8,087 postgraduates and 13,836 undergraduates. The student body is made up of students from almost 110 different nations. Admission to the University of Alabama is more selective, with an acceptance rate of 80%.

Campus

The university campus is located in Southside, Birmingham's most cosmopolitan suburb. It consists approximately 100 structures, including college blocks, the Recreation Center, the UAB Health System, libraries, and residence halls. UAB has two libraries with a large collection of rare and unique publications, pictures, documents, and so forth. The Recreation Center features three floors with game rooms, aerobics classes, gyms, and other amenities.

Accredition

It is accredited to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools ever since 1970. Its collaboration with UAHSF resulted in the establishment of the UAB Health System. 

Jobs and Placement

The Career Center assists students in exploring options, developing skills, and connecting with opportunities linked to their professional ambitions. The Career Center offers many career fairs and connects students, alumni, and businesses through Handshake, an employment and internship portal. In addition, the centre provides on-campus interviews and information sessions for recruiters interested in working at the Capstone. Financial Services workers are the top paid University of Alabama alumni and graduates, earning $120,000 a year.
