Ontario Premier John Robarts approved the establishment of a new institution in the area in 1964, which became known as Trent University. It first attracted roughly 100 students, which was later increased to 250 the following year. Campus

Trent University has two campuses: one in Peterborough and one in Durham, Greater Toronto Area. The Peterborough campus is around 1,400 acres in size. There are twelve varsity athletic teams and three varsity clubs (fencing, cross country running, and golf). Union Station in downtown Toronto is 40 minutes away from the Durham GTA campus.
